Breast Cancer Metastasis: A Heritable Trait?

Some types of breast cancer kill because they metastasize (move to other parts of the body), but not all breast cancers develop this ability. Alice Whittemore of Stanford University is determining whether some people are genetically predisposed to developing metastatic breast cancer. If this turns out to be true, understanding this phenomenon will help doctors tailor more effective treatments to the disease.
